After serving in the Navy for two years, Fred graduated from the Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and served 23 more years as an officer, commanding three separate ships.  While on active duty, he earned a Master of Science degree in physical oceanography (physics) from the Naval Postgraduate School, and taught chemistry at the Naval Academy for three years.  After retiring from the Navy in 1994, Fred worked in manufacturing and computer services before taking his current position with a major Defense consulting firm.
